The short version

  • Snapline does not have accounts, servers, telemetry, analytics, ads, or trackers.
  • Your screenshots, recordings, text, and settings are stored only on your computer, in the folder you choose.
  • The developer of Snapline never receives your captures or any usage data.
  • Data leaves your device only for two optional features you turn on yourself: cloud AI enrichment and app updates. Both are described below.

What Snapline stores on your device

  • Screenshots and screen recordings you capture, saved as real files in the storage folder you select.
  • A local index (names, tags, dates, extracted text) used for search, kept on your computer.
  • Settings, including your chosen options and, if you enter one, your AI provider API key. The API key is stored encrypted on your device using the Windows secure storage system and is never sent anywhere except directly to the AI provider you configured.

Snapline does not upload any of this to the developer.

Microphone and system audio

If you use screen recording with audio enabled, Snapline records the sources you chose in Settings (your selected microphone, the sound playing on your PC, or both), only for the duration of that recording, and saves the audio inside the resulting video file on your computer. Audio is never streamed or sent anywhere else. You can mute the microphone at any time during a recording, and you can set recordings to have no audio at all.

Optional cloud AI (off by default)

Snapline includes optional AI features (auto-naming, tagging, description for search, and detection of sensitive information). These are off by default. If you turn them on and provide your own API key:

  • The images you choose to enrich are sent directly from your computer to the AI provider you selected (for example Anthropic or an OpenAI-compatible provider) to generate the result.
  • This happens only for that feature and only while it is enabled.
  • Your use of that provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and terms.
  • Text recognition (OCR) runs fully offline on your device and does not send anything anywhere.

The developer of Snapline does not receive, store, or have access to anything sent to these providers.

App updates

When installed from the Microsoft Store, updates are delivered by Microsoft through the Store. This involves Microsoft, not the developer, and is covered by Microsoft's own privacy terms. When installed from the direct download, the app checks its public GitHub Releases page for a newer version. Neither method sends your personal data or captures.

Data sharing and selling

The developer does not collect, share, sell, or rent any of your data, because the developer never receives it in the first place.

Children

Snapline is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children.
